So i got out of my own way...
"I got out of my own way?"
Yes, I did, I used to blame my resistance to singing and moving forward on everything around me and usually others. People from my past, people in my present, and even those people in the future. When we move out of our own way we listen deeply to our instinct/inner right minded voice that says "well.. what if you don't fail"
Hopefully this will become a regular thing... I mean communicating. Communicating with my music. Not only that however but Communicating on a deep level in all areas of my life, in my family my community, my friends and acquaintances around me. It's difficult sometimes to speak the truth not because of those around you but your perception of them and their reaction.
The thing that came next for me was finally starting to write and sing again for myself after several years. Which leads me onto my next project: An album.
After a year of pondering Yes: a year, I revisited an old musical partner of mine: Steve Christie ( extremely talented professional pianist, song writer and composer ) . we assembled together and the music flowed like water just like it had seven years ago. (!!!!) I heard the words and melodies come to life while Steve played. I came to life. What emerged was real and authentic and full of potential. This may or may not be something for others, but I'm happy if this is something for me which I must explore and express. I'm hoping it will be a valid Art Piece which I can be proud of and learn from. I am planning to write and record in a varied amount of ways with a variety of musicians to create diversity and scope.
I'm not sure how long it may take or where it may take me but I'm excited to find out. I'm excited to uncover myself a little more and delve in. Maybe become uncomfortable or even feel like I'm fulfilling a purpose and I'm exactly where I belong. Here are a few shots from our first writing session: Steve playing the double bass ( "Bass Noodling" as he likes to call it..Super cool) and the beautifully warm vintage AKG microphone that we laid down the rough vocal ideas with. I hope you'd like to check in again and watch the progress of the journey. You can follow me on PERISCOPE, FACEBOOK and TWITTER!
